HS 330F — International Health Economics

Meets for one-half semester and yields half-course credit. May not be taken for credit by students who took HS 239b in prior years.

Prepares students with graduate-level knowledge in theories and research methods in the area of international health economics. The course aims at providing a rigorous economic framework that addresses both positive and normative issues in the economics of health in developing countries. Examples used to illustrate the economic theories have a developing country focus. Topics covered include: relationship between health outcomes and macro-economic performance; micro-economics of health care and insurance markets including demand for health care services, insurance, supply of physician services and other medical service; normative analysis for health policy and projects including market failure and public intervention.
