Below are just a few examples of ways that Heller alumni are donating their time and their expertise. And you don’t need to live nearby – donate time from the comfort of your home or office, from any country or time zone. Of course, if you’re able to join us in person, please do! We love welcoming former students back to campus, and students are always thrilled to meet with alumni in their field.
Mentorships
Announcing for Fall 2020: Help us welcome our incoming students during this time of "socially distanced" learning. Alumni can play an important role in helping with student success. Get more information and sign up.
Heller Career Network
The Heller Career Network is a virtuous circle of engagement. First, Heller alumni are an important resource for job-seeking students and alumni looking for information about career fields, job trends, job responsibilities, and organizations. Secondly, your organization may be looking for qualified candidates. Opportunities for involvement include:
- Serving as an informational resource to students and alumni in starting their job search
- Volunteering to serve as a mentor to students and other alumni interested in professional development. For more information, contact Helleralumni@brandeis.edu.
- Participating in career panels: Alumni panels convened throughout the academic year by students and Heller’s Career Development Center showcase careers and paths taken to those careers.
- Sharing information about internships and job openings via Heller's Handshake system or by sending them to Jasmine Waddell. To learn more, contact hellercareers@brandeis.edu.
Heller Alumni Association Board
Upon graduation from the Heller School, you are automatically a member of the Heller Alumni Association, which is led by a board of up to thirty Heller alumni. The Heller Alumni Association Board's mission is to promote interest in and develop support for the Heller School for Social Policy and Management by engaging alumni and fostering relationships among them and with the school, and being Heller ambassadors in the larger community.
The work of the Board is accomplished through conference calls throughout the year and two annual board meetings. They provide assistance with fundraising, student recruitment, alumni events, career networking and general outreach to Heller alumni.

Become an Admissions Volunteer
Your firsthand knowledge of the Heller School makes you an important resource to the Admissions Office at Heller. Prospective students gain valuable insight from talking to alumni. Who better to answer the questions of what to expect from a Heller education than individuals who have gone through the program themselves? The types of activities you can participate in include:
- Allowing a prospective student to contact you.
- Making congratulatory calls to accepted students.
- Distributing information at conferences, your workplace or your undergraduate alma mater.
- Attending events where prospective students may be in attendance.
- Agreeing to be profiled or quoted on the Heller School web site or in other promotional materials.
- Speaking at information sessions.
- Participating in recruiting events, such as graduate school fairs.
