Andrew Dreyfus, former President and Chief Executive Officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, has been named Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Philip W. Johnston Massachusetts Health Policy Forum (MHPF).
Dreyfus will be only the 2nd chairman of the MHPF in its 28 years, succeeding its founder and longtime chairman, Philip Johnston. Following Johnston’s death on April 5, the MHPF was named in his honor. “I look forward to advancing Phil Johnston’s vision of better, more affordable health care for all and to working with the Forum’s board and team to improve health policy in the Commonwealth,” Dreyfus said.
Earlier in his career, Dreyfus served as the founding President of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation, where he oversaw the initiative that led to the passage of the Massachusetts 2006 Health Reform Law, which later became the model for the Affordable Care Act.
“Andrew has an impeccable reputation as an innovative health care policy expert with years of experience leading the state’s largest health care insurer. He was the unanimous choice of our board members and we can’t wait to take this organization to new heights under his leadership,” said MHPF Executive Director, Michael Doonan, PhD'02.
The MHPF mission is to improve health and the health care system by convening medical practitioners and scholars, policy makers and legislators to debate real life implications of the most current health policy research. Board members include the state’s leading health care experts, including legislators, government health officials, and industry advocates.
Sarah Iselin, the current President and CEO of the forum’s sustaining partner, BCBSMA, echoed Dr. Doonan’s praise for the new board chair. “Our health care system is facing big challenges and important questions, and there’s no one better equipped than Andrew to chair the Forum,” according to Iselin. “I know if Phil were here, he would agree that Andrew’s expertise, passion and energy is exactly what the organization needs in this moment.”
