Career Development Center

Who We Are

We are professionals dedicated to excellence in career development, with leading-edge experiences from industry and academe, who are excited about the role that we play in advancing the mission of the Heller School: "Knowledge advancing social justice." We strive to achieve this mission through the services and resources that we offer students and alumni. Three ways to think about the role of the career center in your professional career development is that we educate, advise, and connect:

  • Educate: Through our wonderful career education programs and workshops, we provide opportunities for students to develop and hone key readiness skills such as networking, resume and cover letter development, interviewing techniques, salary negotiation and using LinkedIn, DevEx and GoingGlobal. Additionally, we conduct programs that explore careers across a variety of sectors, highlight key hiring organizations and feature alumni who provide an in-depth look into their respective careers and backgrounds.

  • Advise: One of our primary roles is to assist students in clarifying their professional interests, develop a greater understanding of the world of work and illuminate how their experiences, skills and Heller School education fit with their future career goals. We do this through one-on-one advising appointments, which can be scheduled by students through Handshake, our online platform, as well as through drop-in hours, which don't require an appointment.

  • Connect: We are always connecting to alumni at NGOs, state and local governments, research and policy institutes, multilateral organizations and private sector companies to cultivate relationships that lead to jobs, internships and other professional opportunities for students and alumni. We run a variety of experiential treks to key cities such as New York, Washington, D.C. and Boston, where students gain face-to-face time with alumni and employers.
