Estela Lozano
2015 Brandeis Undergraduate Segal Fellow
Estela Lozano is from San Jose, California, and a graduate of Brandeis University. As a daughter of parents who came to the U.S. from Mexico, Estela has worked tirelessly to bring awareness of the obstacles immigrants face by promoting equality in deportation issues and access to education. At Brandeis, as co-president of the Brandeis Immigration Education Initiative (BIEI), a campus awareness organization, she met with Brandeis administration to discuss the school’s policy against admissions of undocumented students. Being bilingual in Spanish, Estela provided translation services at the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office in the Victim Services department. She supplemented her studies in Health: Science Society and Policy and Latin American and Latino Studies with years interning throughout California and Massachusetts. In 2011, she was selected by Students Rising Above for her ability to strive for her dreams as a Citizen Leader. Estela is a Paralegal at the Office of the County Counsel, County of Santa Clara.
