The Eli J. & Phyllis N. Segal Citizen Leadership Program is pleased to offer our partner organizations the opportunity to work with a carefully selected Eli J. & Phyllis N. Segal Fellow through mission-driven summer internships that address important social needs. Fellows (Heller graduate students or Brandeis undergraduates) will apply their knowledge, skills, and passions to advance the needs of the internship site and to advance social justice. They have been selected from a competitive pool of applicants and have been prepared to leverage their best for their internship by completing our citizen leadership curriculum.
We place 6 sophomore, junior or Master in Public Policy students from Brandeis University/The Heller School mission-based summer internships that last at least 8+ weeks. Host site matching usually takes place in March-April for internships over the coming summer.
At The Segal Program, we work to support our internship partners in having the best possible experience with their Fellows, and we also work to promote our partners' work with our 600+ strong Segal Network. We ask that Segal internship partners commit to providing an exceptional and structured experiential learning opportunity of at least 280 hours over the course of the summer that results in tangible contributions from the Segal Fellow to the site and that allows the Fellow to gain professional skills as a citizen leader. We work with host agencies to provide a generous stipend to our Fellows.

For Summer 2022, our Segal Fellows' interests are around: reproductive justice, women in politics, gender-based violence, social needs of aging populations, advocacy around elder care issues, rural economic development, educational justice, civil rights law, voting rights, and national security.
If you are interested in potentially hosting a Segal Fellow Summer Intern, please contact Segal Program Director Susie Flug-Silva with details about your potential internship openings and requirements. Unfortunately, we are not able to partner with each interested agency, as we receive more requests from hosts than Fellows each year. But if there's not an internship match in a given year, we'd love to connect with you in other ways or partner with you for a future internship.
