Michael (Micky) O'Neill
2024 AmeriCorps Segal Fellow
Michael (Micky) O’Neill is an AmeriCorps Segal Fellow from Silver Spring, Maryland. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in literature, with a minor in philosophy, from American University in Washington, DC. While growing as a writer and communicator in college, Micky discovered his passion for helping children by coaching community swim teams. He pursued this by moving to Austin, Texas to close the educational opportunity gap as an AmeriCorps Tutor with Literacy First. He returned for a second year as a Team Leader. During service, Micky and his teams helped their students by becoming active partners in their school communities, which imparted the lesson that change comes from strong communities. As a Segal Fellow at AmeriCorps’ headquarters, Micky is thrilled to work for communities across America. He looks forward to doing so by contributing to AmeriCorps’ Strategic Plan for 2026-2030, finding creative ways to engage the public in planning and building new partnerships within the agency.
