Saynab Maalin
2023 Heller MPP Segal Fellow
Saynab Maalin interned with Mass INC for her Segal summer internship. There, she focused on supporting the development of a comprehensive housing strategy for the City of New Bedford, MA. Saynab assisted with data collection and analysis, as well as policy research, examining housing programs and regulations in New Bedford while capturing best practices in peer cities. She continued to develop her skills in research and public speaking, and got more practice writing research projects. During her internship, Saynab learned about housing, especially what's happening throughout the state. MassINC invited Saynab to stay on in a paid capacity in the fall of 2023 to continue her engagement.
Saynab is a MPP/MBA candidate at the Heller School of Social Policy and Management concentrating in Economic and Racial Equity (graduating in December 2024). This summer, Saynab is interning with the Boston Indicators within the Boston Foundation to update their Greater Boston Housing Report Card. Earlier in the semester, Saynab presented her capstone titled "A Just Transition: Equity in Renewable Energy Policies," she focused on what this means for Massachusetts' Environmental Justice (EJ) communities and its potential to create a more inclusive transition to clean energy. She focused on Boston and Springfield as examples on where there are gaps for EJ communities within these municipalities.
