What is the study about?
The Exploring Community Knowledge Study is a state-funded, community-engaged project that collects a variety of information on an annual basis from community members about overdose, drug use, access to harm reduction supplies, prevention practices, and treatment options across Massachusetts. We aim to gain a deeper understanding of service use and substance use experiences to advance knowledge, identify gaps, and inform future programs from people who are currently or may use them.
The Exploring Community Knowledge Study involves collection of an annual survey (ECKS-O), qualitative interviews, community-based ethnographic observations, and drug checking insights across Massachusetts. We work to nurture the community and harm reduction workforce in research and create opportunities for direct project involvement of people across diverse backgrounds with lived and living experience from start to finish.
