The Research Center for Parents with Disabilities, a Lurie Institute Center, Receives 5-Year NIDILRR Grant

The National Research Center for Parents with Disabilities is excited to announce that it has been re-awarded a five-year $2.5 million grant from the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research, part of the Administration for Community Living.

The National Research Center for Parents with Disabilities conducts research and provides training and technical assistance to improve the lives of parents with disabilities and their families, particularly disabled parents of color. Our primary aim is to ensure that the diverse community of parents with disabilities will be able to use and benefit from our research. The Center will ensure that disabled parents of color are included in the generation and evaluation of knowledge, products, and support under the direction of a National Advisory Board of racially and ethnically diverse parents with disabilities with a range of disabilities.

The Center aims to:

  • Address knowledge gaps regarding the experiences, challenges, and needs of parents with disabilities and their families, particularly disabled parents of color, through population-based research and state policy analysis;
  • Contribute to the research base of supports for parents with disabilities and their families, through the development, adaptation, testing, and scale-up of intervention models for diverse groups of parents, their families, and professionals who work with them;
  • Systematically translate evidence-based knowledge and make it acceptable to diverse stakeholders through state-of-the-art, empirically informed testing, technical assistance, dissemination, and utilization activities.
