Dr. A. H. Monjurul Kabir, Honorary Visiting Scholar/Visiting Research Scientist

Dr. A. H. Monjurul Kabir, an international human rights lawyer, political scientist, and expert on the rule of law, is a Senior United Nations System Coordination Adviser and Global Team Leader for Gender Equality, Disability Inclusion and Intersectionality at UN Women’s headquarters in New York City. Prior to this, he was Senior Rule of Law Policy Adviser (2018–20), and Chief of Asia–Pacific Section (2014–18) at UN Women’s headquarters. He was also the global lead for inclusive South South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) and was the Practice Team Leader (2013–14) and Policy Adviser (2010–13) for Governance, Human Rights and Justice for United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Europe and Central Asia. In addition, he served as the Global Policy Specialist (2006–10) for Governance and Knowledge Management at UNDP headquarters.

Mr. Kabir, a British Chevening Scholar, and Politics Fellow, has authored several books, research articles, blogs, and op-ed pieces on a range of critical global trends and issues including the rule of law, human rights, justice, governance in transitions, conflicts and crisis settings, gender, accessibility, disability inclusion, and intersectionality. He received his LL.M./master’s in international human rights law with distinction from the University of Essex, United Kingdom, and holds a PhD in Politics, Democratization, and Aid Effectiveness from the University of Hull, United Kingdom. His most recent book is titled Development Aid in Stable Democracies and Fragile States.

Mr. Kabir is an Honorary Visiting Scholar/Visiting Research Scientist at the Lurie Institute for Disability Policy.
