Maddie Crowley (she/they) is a Communications Specialist at the Lurie Institute. Before working at Brandeis, Maddie worked at the Florida Protection and Advocacy agency, Disability Rights Florida, as their Social Media and Content Specialist. Maddie led the organization's outward-facing digital presence and created accessible legislative, advocacy, and educational materials that supported Floridians with disabilities.
Maddie holds a Disability Justice framework in the work they do. They’re passionate about making disability advocacy as easy as possible for people with disabilities by centering accessibility practices such as plain language and design. Having taught themselves most of what they know, they are a firm believer in open-access community learning and the value of education outside and inside the classroom.
Maddie is also a 2024 Coelho Law Fellow, where they engage with other young disability rights practitioners on emerging disability-related issues and emerging critical disability law perspectives.
Maddie graduated cum laude with dual Bachelor's degrees in Linguistics and Education Sciences with a minor in Disability Studies from the University of Florida.
