Laurin Bixby, PhD, is a Research Scientist at the Lurie Institute for Disability Policy at Brandeis University. Dr. Bixby’s work illuminates and challenges how structural ableism harms disabled people across a variety of systems, such as healthcare, long-term services and supports, housing, transportation, and carceral systems. She is particularly interested in leveraging survey and administrative data to understand and improve access to Medicaid home and community-based services. Through her research and advocacy, Laurin aims to inform policy and structural changes that advance Disability Justice.
Prior to joining Brandeis, Laurin was a Health Policy Research Scholar with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Lex Frieden Disability Policy and Advocacy intern at Elevance Health, and Summer Fellow at Mathematica Policy Research. She has a PhD in sociology and master's degree in statistics from the University of Pennsylvania.
