Laurin Bixby, PhD, is a Research Scientist at the Lurie Institute for Disability Policy at Brandeis University. She recently completed her PhD in sociology and master's in statistics from the University of Pennsylvania.
During her doctoral training, Laurin was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Research Scholar, Lex Frieden Disability Policy and Advocacy intern at Elevance Health, and Summer Fellow at Mathematica Policy Research. Her work illuminates and challenges how structural ableism harms disabled people through a variety of systems, such as healthcare, long-term services and supports, housing, transportation, and incarceration. Through her research, she aims to inform policy changes that advance Disability Justice by ending systems of harm and ensuring the full integration of disabled people in their communities.
