Welcome from the Interim Dean
Marty W. Krauss, PhD'81
Interim Dean and John Stein Professor of Disability Research, Emerita
Welcome to the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. On this website you’ll find information about our diverse degree programs and research centers and institutes, which cover subjects from health policy to assets inequity, and sustainable international development to youth employment. While our areas of focus are varied, everything we do connects the academic world with practical applications in the public and policy arenas.
Heller’s motto is “knowledge advancing social justice,” and we strive to live up to that language. At its core, our work provides the information that’s needed to positively impact those who are most vulnerable in society.
We believe in the power of different perspectives, both in the Heller community and in our research. Diversity comes in many different forms here, and we appreciate the countless experiences, ideas, and backgrounds that help inform our classroom conversations and prepare our graduates for a world that requires flexible thinking and an empathetic approach to critical social policy issues.
I’ve been part of the Heller community since I enrolled as a doctoral student more than 30 years ago. I’ve held a number of roles at the school, from director of the Starr Center for Mental Retardation to associate dean for faculty and academic programs. Now, I’m honored to be back as interim dean.
I hope that in looking through our website and learning more about us, you’ll find Heller to be as important and special as I do.
