Asian Student Working Group

Heller Asian Student Working Group is comprised of representatives of graduate students from 14 Asian countries. The group is formed to showcase the diversity of Asia and to provide the platform for students to build a diverse cultural environment, to create the sense of understanding and most of all to foster “solidarity and coexistence” among students of different nationalities. 

Meetings: Every third Thursday, 12:30 - 1:30PM in G55.

Education Working Group 

This group provides a space for members of the Heller community to discuss aspects of all levels of education. The outputs that the group is working towards include a database of education related resources for students to use when looking for research topics or internship placements to contact.

Powerful Asian Women (PAW)

PAW is open to all people who identify as Asian women, sharing the love for Asian culture, cuisine, and language. PAW provides a safe space to meet and discuss issues concerning the Asian community and plan activities where Asian women can get together, have fun, eat delicious food and empower each other. 

Meetings: We meet for Asian dinner at least twice per semester.

Brandeis University Africa Forum (BUAF) 

BUAF is a student club that shines light on African issues and current events and showcases the beauty of the continent through our “Africa Night” event in the spring semester. The Brandeis University Africa Forum vision is, "Creating our Truth in Building the Modern African Narrative at Brandeis University."

Meetings: Fridays at 1:30pm.

Global Goals Working Group (GGWG) 

GGWG promotes the UN Sustainable Development Goals in real life praxis and the Heller School. 

Meetings: The Executive Team meets every two weeks, the full Working Group meets once a month for events.

Solidarity Network 

The Solidarity Network is an interdisciplinary gathering of Heller students working together in recognition that we come with a variety of histories and experiences to our education here. We also believe there is merit in recognizing and learning about these differences to build and be in solidarity with each other at the Heller School. Previously, the Solidarity Network has hosted events including: “Palestine: Past, Present and Future,” “Building Resilience During Difficult Times,” and “Culture and Identity Night.”

Meetings: The Solidarity Network meets biweekly on Tuesdays 12-1pm.

Environmental Justice Working Group 

The Environmental Justice Working Group brings students together to raise awareness around local and global environmental issues and to promote environmental justice and sustainable practices on- and off-campus.  

Meetings: Tuesdays from 12-2pm

Heller Consulting Group (HCG)

The Heller Consulting Group provides help with case interviews, organizes case competitions and provides non-profit consulting.

Meetings: Mondays at 5pm

Net Impact - Heller Chapter 

Mobilizing students to use their skills and careers to drive transformational social and environmental change through the power of business.

DisABILITY Working Group 

This group provides a space for members of the Heller community to discuss aspects of forms of ability status. The outputs that the group is working towards include a database of disability related resources for students to use when looking for research topics or internship placements to contact. This database is housed on a website facilitated by the group.

Sin Fronteras 

Sin Fronteras is here to create a space for Latinx graduate and PhD Brandeis students to celebrate the Latinx culture and also plan events around advocacy and professional development. 

Meetings: Mondays from 5:00-6:15pm 


Gender Working Group (GWG)

The GWG approaches development from a gender perspective by making space in the development dialogue for discourse surrounding gender inequality, gender identity, and sexuality. Our goal is to be as inclusive and intersectional as possible, and to foster important and meaningful discussions through speakers, movie screenings, discussion groups, and campaigns. 

Meetings: Biweekly on Thursdays at 12pm

Heller Hip Hop Dance Crew 

The Heller Hip Hop Dance Crew is a group of Heller students sharing the love for hip hop culture, music and dance. 

Meetings: We meet as the needs arise (i.e. when we get invited to perform at Heller events.)

Steps to creating a working group 

1. Check the list of current working groups to determine if you can work with an existing group. A streamlined list of working groups means events are less likely to overlap with each other!

2. Draft a short introduction to the objectives, goals and proposed activities of the working group. 

3. Meet with the Assistant Dean of Student and Academic Services, Ravi Lakshmikanthan (, to discuss your idea(s).
