Reducing Barriers to Value-Based Care Payments in NP-Owned Practices

This bold initiative is designed to help nurse practitioner (NP) owned primary care practices participate in risk-based payment models. The work includes a risk-readiness tool that is being developed by the BC-Brandeis team to help NP owners identify areas where they can enhance their practice to be more risk ready. This is followed by a 7 session learning collaborative that will cover topics such as financing and financial stability, documenting and improving quality, optimizing your EHR and building community collaborations.  Eight pilot sites have agreed to join us for the first round of this work which will then be followed by a second round of the learning collaborative with new sites. The project will culminate in a funders summit that aims to bring nurse owners, payers and other stakeholders together to identify payment model options suitable for engaging NP owners in risk. All materials from this project, including the learning collaborative curriculum and risk readiness tool will be put into the public domain. The project is funded by American Nurses Foundation.
