Racial Justice x Technology Policy

About RJxTP

At the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, our passion lies in advancing social justice through knowledge. We believe that every community deserves equitable access to the benefits of technology, and our Racial Justice x Tech Policy program is the vehicle through which we aim to make this a reality.

We acknowledge that underserved populations have historically been left behind during technological transitions, leading to a myriad of negative impacts on their quality and quantity of life. At the same time, these groups are disproportionately affected by the negative effects of technology, such as algorithmic assaults and bias in AI, Big Data, and Machine Learning. That's where our mission comes in - to arm new cohorts of scholars, particularly scholars of color, with the skills and knowledge to steer research, work, and policies away from discriminatory practices and towards equity.

Our program brings together an interdisciplinary, multicultural community of scholars and tech experts who are committed to ensuring that no one is left behind in the rapidly evolving world of technology. We believe that by creating this pathway, we can create real change and empower those who have been traditionally underserved and disproportionately impacted by technology.

We take our mission seriously and lead by example, implementing learning objectives that help our community understand algorithms through the lens of equity and mitigate associated biases. At the Heller School, we are dedicated to making a tangible impact on the world and we believe that our Racial Justice x Tech Policy program is a vital step towards a brighter, more just future.
