The new Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation is charged with testing innovative payment and service delivery models to reduce program expenditures while preserving or enhancing the quality of care. This meeting explored how CMS could accelerate the cycle time required for pilot program development, implementation, evaluation, and expansion of successful approaches into the broader Medicare program. A perspectives article based on themes discussed in this meeting was published in the New England Journal of Medicine on March 4, 2010.
