Program Description

The Racial Justice x Technology Policy’s Knowledge Production Pillar is committed to providing the necessary educational tools to equip learners with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in racial justice, technology policy, and overall STEM fields. Our proposed micro-credentialing program offers flexibility, affordability, and relevancy. Additionally, the micro-credentials will provide recognition certificates and digital badges to participants. We believe that this program will provide early-career and mid-career professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully implement racial justice and technology policy initiatives and be more aware of the intersection of race and technology.

Instructional Method

The micro-credentials will be offered in a hybrid instruction method, which will combine the best of both traditional and online education. In this method, the participants will attend one-week intensive lectures and workshops in-person, as well as complete online activities such as research activities, quizzes, assignments, and discussion forums. The hybrid instruction method will provide the participants with a more comprehensive and immersive learning experience, as well as the flexibility of attending the program activities from their own homes. Additionally, these micro-credentials will have the potential to be credit bearing and stackable.


The purpose of the proposed micro-credentialing program is to provide early-career and mid-career professionals as well as Heller students and alumni with the necessary skills and knowledge to equip new generations of researchers, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, with the knowledge of how to use research and policy to mitigate discriminatory practices such as algorithmic attacks, bias in AI, Big Data, and Machine Learning algorithms. We aim to develop of an interdisciplinary, multicultural group of academics and technology professionals. The program will also provide a cost-effective and efficient way to recognize mastery of skills. In addition, the program will provide recognition and digital badges to the participants, which will help them to differentiate themselves in the job market and increase their chances of landing a job in the technology policy field.
