Ryan Sarafolean

Ryan Sarafolean is a community organizer, educator, and proud graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. For four years, Ryan worked at an after school program that served the at-risk and homeless community in Madison. Upon graduation, Ryan became an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow with Project SUCCESS, a nonprofit organization in Minneapolis. Ryan now serves as the Founder and Executive Director of the KGSA Foundation, a nonprofit organization that reduces poverty and gender inequalities in the Kibera slum of Nairobi, Kenya. KGSA Foundation works closely with local leaders in Kibera to provide free secondary education, artistic programming, and athletic opportunities to over 130 young women each year. The core of the Foundation’s work is to build and harness the unique strength of women to lead their communities out of poverty. Ryan is in a graduate program in development management at American University in Washington, D.C., where he is focusing on gender studies and community development. Ryan is also co-director of OurCity D.C., a nonprofit that uses live music as a way to build and bridge communities and expose citizens to local organizations and causes within their neighborhoods.
