Jennifer Perloff
Senior Scientist and Director of Institute for Healthcare Systems (IHS)
Profile
Dr. Perloff has 20 years of experience in evaluation and health services research with much of that work grounded in claims data analysis. Most recently, Dr. Perloff has been involved in assessing the impact of accountable care organizations (ACOs) on post-acute care and the transition of service from institutional to home and community-based setting. For example, she is currently leading an implementation evaluation of a 12 ACO learning collaborative focused on transitional and primary care home visit models. She is also evaluating a paramedicine home-visiting model that targets the most medically complex Medicare beneficiaries in rural North Carolina. This project has required some methodological innovations, such as dropping the treatment window from an interrupted time series design to remove the effect of regression to the mean. Dr. Perloff has also evaluation the impact of preferred skilled nursing facility networks on the quality, community tenure and cost. Other projects include the evaluation of rehabilitation and exercise to reduce falls in frail elders and on-going work to assess the cost and quality of nurse practitioner delivered primary care. In addition to research, Dr. Perloff co-leads the health concentration in the Heller School Ph.D. program and is the Director of the Institute for Healthcare Systems. She serves on many dissertation committees and is actively engaged in mentoring students and junior faculty.
