Profile

Cynthia A. Tschampl, PhD is a Scientist at The Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University. She has 20 years' experience with U.S. and global health, starting with a non-profit, policy background (including work in South Africa, Colombia, and Haiti) and completing her doctoral research training in 2014. Dr. Tschampl’s research involves both quantitative and qualitative research methods. She has specialized in economic evaluations, such as cost-effectiveness and cost-offsets analyses. Other research interests include prevention and control of infectious diseases (including the healthcare financing thereof), responses to substance use disorder, services for those without housing, immigrant/migrant health, health disparities, poverty reduction, access to oral healthcare, and quality measurement. Dr. Tschampl was part of the small team evaluating the 2012 Health Care Cost Containment Law on behalf of the Office of the Massachusetts State Auditor. She has served on the Massachusetts Medical Advisory Committee for the Elimination of Tuberculosis (MACET) since 2004, including as the Co-Chair of the Prevention Integration into Other Health Systems Subcommittee for seven years, and as Chair of Stop TB Massachusetts since 2014. Dr. Tschampl received the National TB Controller Association’s 2011 Charles DeGraw TB Award for outstanding service, and was elected Chair-Elect of Stop TB USA in 2021. She has also served as a member of the Global Partnership for Dengue Control.
