Visiting Faculty in Poverty and Political Economy
The Graduate Program in Sustainable International Development of the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University invites applications for a one year Visiting Professorship, with possibility of renewal for a second year, for a social scientist with a strong background in the political economy of poverty. Candidates are expected to have a solid theoretical and methodological foundation in political economy but will be considered from a variety of related disciplines to teach interdisciplinary courses on the theory, history and practice of development at the Masters and PhD levels. Knowledge of current policy debates about development assistance, development models and climate change is required.
The successful applicant will combine a strong background in development studies with practical experience in international development through international organizations. Research publications are a plus. The Visiting Professor will teach the equivalent of four full semester courses in the academic year, mentor students, and be fully engaged in the intellectual and cultural life of the Heller community. The Visiting Professor will also affiliate with the Institute on Global Health and Development.
The position starts in mid-August 2010.
Since teaching, mentoring and research at the Heller School are conducted within a social justice framework, applicants should demonstrate their commitment to social justice through their professional career.
