Commencement Information for Graduates
Commencement weekend at the Heller School is a wonderful event celebrating the achievements of our graduates. Students who complete their academic programs and receive degrees in August and February of the preceding year are invited to return to campus and participate, along with the May degree candidates, in the Brandeis and Heller School commencement ceremonies.
The ceremony, in Spingold Theater on Sunday, May 21, features a welcome from the Dean, remarks from a representative of each of the degree programs, and each student individually being hooded (PhD candidates) or receiving a diploma.
All Heller graduates and their families and friends are invited by Dean Krauss to the Reception for Graduates in Zinner Forum on Saturday, May 20, 2:00-4:00 pm. No RSVP is necessary.
Caps and gowns will be available at the Heller School in Room 125 beginning May 10. Exact dates/times to be confirmed. Regalia will also be available during the reception on Saturday, May 20, and before the ceremony at Spingold on Sunday, May 21.
Tickets and Seating
No tickets are needed for the Heller commencement. Tickets for the Brandeis commencement (5 tickets per graduate) are available at the Graduate Center in Kutz per the following schedule:
- May 9: 12:00-7:00 pm
- May 10: 10:00 am-4:00 pm
- May 11: 10:00 am-4:00 pm
You will need your Brandeis ID or a picture ID to pick up your tickets. If you cannot be present to pick up your tickets, please email email@example.com and say that Doris Breay can pick them up for you.
Time to Arrive
Graduates must be at Spingold Theater by 7:15 am on Sunday morning. GRADUATES MUST BE IN REGALIA AND IN LINE BY 7:30 AM.
Guests should be encouraged to arrive early to have time to park and be seated before the processional begins (promptly) at 8:00 am.
Transportation and Parking
Traffic on South Street on Sunday morning is very heavy. Please leave enough time for you to drive and park (in the lot behind Spingold Theater) to arrive at Spingold by 7:15 am. If you have special parking needs, plan on arriving early on Sunday morning when you will be able to park close to Spingold.
**Please note that the earliest commuter train out of Boston will NOT get you to Brandeis in time for commencement. If you normally travel to Heller by commuter rail, please make arrangements to stay closer to campus on Saturday evening.**
No coffee is available in Spingold before the ceremony. Refreshments are available at Gosman where the main ceremony will be held.
DO NOT GO TO HELLER ON SUNDAY MORNING. Everyone, including staff and faculty, will be at Spingold Theater. All regalia will be at Spingold. Please check the campus map if you are not sure where Spingold Theater is. The parking lot is directly behind the theater.
DO NOT WORRY ABOUT NOT KNOWING WHERE YOU WILL BE LINING UP. Staff from each of the degree programs and Student Services will be available to direct and help you on Sunday morning.
WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES for the ceremony. You will be walking up a short flight of stairs to the stage when your name is called to receive your diploma.
