Waltham, MA April 30, 2007—The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University announced today a new scholarship funded by SAGE Publications, a leading publisher of management and social science research. The scholarship will initially provide one-year’s tuition for a top student pursuing a degree in the school’s MBA program and will grow to include several students over the next few years.

“We are excited about this venture with SAGE Publications and look forward to working together to educate a new generation to lead organizations with a social mission,” said Professor Jody Hoffer Gittell, MBA program director.

SAGE scholars will be selected for their leadership ability, commitment to social justice, and academic performance in the MBA program. The first SAGE scholar will be selected today and will receive $35,000 in assistance, equal to two semesters of tuition. Over the next three years, SAGE will support several more students in the four-semester MBA program, said Gittell.

“SAGE is committed to supporting talented students in their endeavors to become leaders of mission-driven organizations,” said Simqu. “Given our shared values, this is a natural partnership between SAGE and the Heller MBA.”

The Heller School represents a singular vision in graduate education—a blend of academic rigor and an enduring commitment to social justice. When the MBA was launched in 1999, it was one of the few nationwide designed for students interested in managing organizations with a social mission, said Gittell. The Heller MBA educates students to lead organizations in the pursuit of not only financial goals but also solutions to pressing social problems.

SAGE’s reputation as a publisher in the field of social science and management will enhance Heller’s ability to attract the best students, said Gittell. “The goal of the Heller MBA is to raise the expertise available in the human service sector, and to accomplish that, tuition assistance is essential. We are grateful to SAGE for helping us to achieve this goal.”
