Assets and Inequalities

Thomas ShapiroIn August 2014, Institute on Assets and Social Policy (IASP) director Thomas Shapiro appeared on Real Money with Ali Velshi to discuss the role that homeownership plays as a key driver of the racial wealth gap. Shapiro explained, using Ferguson, MO, as a real-life comparison, that housing is the largest driver of the racial wealth gap.

Thomas Shapiro’s chapter in the National Urban League’s 38th Annual State of Black America Report was quoted in articles in The Real News ("Reparations are Imperative: The Stagnate "State of Black America," May 6, 2014) and in The Los Angeles Sentinel ("Income Inequality Growing," June 12, 2014).
