Health Industry Forum

The Health Industry Forum presented "The Evolution of Accountable Care Under Medicare" on June 3, 2014, in Washington, DC.  As the highly anticipated Pioneer ACO and Medicare Shared Savings programs enter the middle of their third year it is a critical time for the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) and participating organizations to take stock of their initial experiences and determine how the program should evolve. This Forum began by discussing key accomplishments and key challenges with a diverse group of ACO providers. It reviewed critical design elements of the Pioneer and Shared Savings programs including financial benchmarks, risk adjustment, and beneficiary attribution, and examined how these mechanisms could be improved. Finally, because many organizations face the challenge of transitioning from a predominantly Fee-For-Service to a more value-based payment environment, the forum discussed the extent to which current health plan, large employer and Medicaid initiatives align with Medicare’s accountable care programs.
