“Mississippi Medicaid Data Project”
Funder: Mississippi State University; subcontract to Brandeis from Mississippi Division of Medicaid

The researchers will analyze motivating factors that contribute to emergency room visits by Medicaid patients in Mississippi including demographic factors, age, geographical location, diagnosis, frequency of visits, and availability of alternative treatment options. The analysis will also examine the impact on emergency room visits before and after the implementation of managed care for certain Medicaid populations. The team will also train a core group of Mississippi State researchers on the specific parameters of Medicaid claims data in order to build capacity in health systems, heath financing and health policy.

“Hospital Acquired Conditions and Preventable Readmissions: Evaluation of Interventions and Cost”
Funder: Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; subcontract to Brandeis from Ascension Health

This project will develop and test performance outcome measures to support the evaluation of leading edge interventions in 12 topic areas and when possible use a rapid feedback loop to inform clinical leads on the efficiency of the interventions. In addition, the study will provide analysis of the cost implications for hospital operations as internal strategies focus on value.
