Bringing on-the-ground health care policy experience to the classroom

Michael Doonan's work in health care reform spans both the state and national levels.

Author of the recently published American Federalism in Practice: The Formulation and Implementation of Contemporary Health Policy, Michael Doonan’s work in health care economic policy is currently both on the state and national levels. Beginning his career as a legislative aide for then Senator John Kerry, and later at the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services where his focus was on Medicaid managed care and state health care reform, he brings relevant on-the-ground experience into the classroom. His expertise has been tapped by President Clinton for his Health Care taskforce where Doonan worked on health care issues for low-income and working families and as a fellow for the U.S. Senate Finance Committee in the mid-90s relative to health care reform. Doonan’s doctoral work reflected his interests which are at the intersection between political science and health services research.
