Profile

Mediator and negotiation expert, Alain Lempereur develops worldwide programs in research, consulting, and executive education on responsible leadership and negotiation.
His main book "The First Move. A Negotiator’s Companion" has been edited in many languages all around the world. He is an Executive Committee Member of the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School, where he has been a visiting professor.

He is an adviser and a trainer for international organizations, such as the European Commission, OECD, UNDP, UNITAR, and WHO. He facilitated multi-stakeholders' meetings for the WHO-CMG Negotiation Training in Africa (2000-2002), the Burundi Leadership Training Program (2003-2007), the D.R. Congo Initiative for a Cohesive Leadership (2006-2009), the International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and State Building (2009-2011) , the Karama Platform for Peace in Libya (2012), the Max Planck Institute Negotiation Training in Afghanistan (2012-2013) and the Shades Negotiation Program in Israel and Palestine (2013). He belongs to the UN mediators' network. He also advises consulting firms, like the Boston Consulting Group and McKinsey, as well as international corporations.

He has been a pioneer in European education on negotiation since 1995 and established in Paris an academic institute called Irene – peace in Greek –, which he developed as its first director (1995-2008). He designed and delivered training programs for many universities and professional schools (Ena, Enpc, Universities of Paris, Lebanese University, University of Mannheim, CIIM-Cyprus, University of Corsica). In 2003, he initiated the "Negotiators of the World" programs and in 2004, he developed the negotiation curriculum for the European Commission. He was Essec Chair Professor of Negotiation and Mediation until 2011, when the Financial Times designated him "Professor of the Week" for his academic contributions.

Alain and his wife, Michele, have three children Daria, Henri, and Emery.
