Sylvia F. Pendleton is Senior Research Associate with the Schneider Institutes for Health Policy. Since 1972 she has assisted with research in long-term care policy, planning, and service delivery for elders. Currently she has responsibility for the organization and management of the Livingston/ Schneider Institutes for Health Policy Library, consisting of over 70 periodicals and 11,000 books, reports, and monographs. She maintains a bibliographic database of library holdings with subject-search capability to respond to topic-specific research needs. Research projects have included literature and data searches on state-level long-term care service need, demand, capacity, present and projected client population; telephone survey of state agencies to determine existing infrastructures for administration of home and community-based care; telephone survey of national rural health authorities to identify rural long-term care initiatives; literature searches, surveys, and data analysis for the following studies: adverse drug reactions in the elderly; elders' choice of living arrangements; survey of respiratory and dietary therapy in home health agencies; planning home care for elders by home health agencies and by rehabilitation facilities; use of hospital-based program providing primary care to nursing home residents through a physician/nurse practitioner team.
