HS 289F — Sustainable Economic Development Strategies

Meets for one-half semester and yields half-course credit.

Examines the current economic conditions of the developing countries and various development policies that are available to policy makers in these countries for achieving equitable and sustainable economic development. This course will introduce the students to the practical and applied tools of development economics, explore the policy debates around the best ways to understand and approach developing economies, and look at examples of alternative development strategies. We will review the economic problems of the underdeveloped countries to develop some understanding of the causes of economic backwardness and the process of economic development.
