HS 508A — Theory of Social Policy and Change

Takes a broad view of social policy considering the subject from a number of perspectives. This course concentrates on goals and issues. The seminar aims to enhance awareness of: the range of goals of social policy and the conflicts that arise between them; developments in social policies; differences in the interpretation of the nature of social problems; challenges to current social policies. The seminar recognizes, as far as possible, that people will bring different knowledge, intellectual concerns, experience and interests. It is not about the United States, although many of the readings are drawn from the United States and Britain. Usually offered ever year.
