WE INVITE YOU TO APPLY FOR ADMISSION to one of the degree programs in Sustainable Development. We are a diverse, intellectual community of students, faculty and alumni from over 80 countries throughout the world. Our mission is to help build a new generation of development planners and policy makers for whom a global society free of poverty, preventable disease, and environmental degradation is achievable.
Successful applicants to the MA program/joint MA programs in Sustainable International Development usually have at least two or three years of demonstrated experience in development. Applicants who were brought up in developing nations or who have been immersed in the culture may have their professional experience requirement waived. Waivers are granted only after careful review of the application by the faculty admissions committee. Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and alumni of other international service organizations are encouraged to apply.
Successful applicants to the MS program/joint MS programs in International Health Policy & Management are usually mid-career professionals who finished their university training 5 to 6 years ago. This requirement is usually waived only for medical doctors from developing nations. Students who enter without a strong background in statistics or economics will be required to attend the Summer Enrichment Program.
SID consists of several degree programs:
A two-year program in development studies and project planning, implementation and evaluation. The program includes a Year-in-Residence and a second year professional internship or advanced study. A one-year accelerated MA-SID program is available only for applicants with significant experience in international development.
A one-year program in health policy making and management of health systems in low and middle income countries. Students may participate in an optional four-week Summer Enrichment Program.
A five-semester program which provides an opportunity to study development while examining the structural and psychosocial causes of conflict and violence, allowing students to analyze strategies for intervention.
A five-semester program which will strengthen strategic organizational and financial skills in the context of world development.
A five-semester program which will strengthen strategic organizational and financial skills in the context of health policy making and management of health systems in low and middle income countries.
An accelerated four-year program, offered in conjunction with the Northeastern University School of Law, includes combined law/international development co-ops and give students experience in applying the law in an international development context. Students apply and are accepted to each degree program separately.
A two-year degree, offered in conjunction with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, offers students the tools needed for incorporating interdisciplinary women's and gender studies theories knowledge and methodologies into their learning and research.
