The curriculum is based upon the case method of adult learning, as modeled in the training of clinical and business professionals alike. There will be in-class simulations, group work, and class discussions. The modules build upon each other, encompassing the themes of health policy and management and application of frameworks.
The course curriculum covers the following core competency areas:
Sample topics covered in the 2008 program:
Health care providers and administrators with substantial experience in the health care system will benefit most from this program. As such, the program is open to a variety of health care professionals. Enrollment is limited to 35 or fewer to ensure quality by keeping the class size small. In the past, this program has included mostly surgeons, but other health care professionals are welcome as well. A limited number of spaces are available at reduced rates for physicians in training and allied health professionals, such as physician assistants and nurse practitioners. Please contact the Program Coordinator, Linda Purrini (purrini@brandeis.edu), with any questions regarding participation.
Program activities take place on the campus of Brandeis University. A block of rooms will be available at a discounted rate at the Boston Marriott Newton, located on the banks of the Charles River in Newton, Massachusetts, two miles from Brandeis. The cost of the program is $5,200 per person and covers tuition, all course materials, selected group meals and transportation to and from Brandeis University and the hotel. An early registration discount of $400 will be available for those registering and paying in full by May 1, 2009.
