The 2009 Health Policy Forum: Physicians Affecting Change is a continuing medical education program jointly sponsored by the Massachusetts Medical Society and the Heller School for Social Policy and Management for physicians.
To creatively face whatever challenges lie ahead and envision new possibilities for the future of medicine, the physician population must have a sophisticated understanding of national health policy, including policy that will effectively control health care costs. This understanding is essential to advocating for initiatives to improve health care quality, access, equity, and cost-effectiveness, and to promoting a sound public health system. This program provides an overview of national health policy, the key systemic issues affecting health care in the US today, and those that will affect health care in the future-financing, quality, reform, innovation, and policy decision-making.
Attendees will gain a greater understanding of national health policy, particularly in the areas of economics and finance, to facilitate their active partnership in the health care debate at the district, regional, state, and national levels and efforts to advocate for making policy changes to improve their practice environments.
The Mass Medical Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of 7.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. This activity meets the criteria of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine for risk management study.
