Alumni Spotlight
Each month the COEX program will "spotlight" a COEX alum; this will include what the alum is currently doing now professional within the field of conflict, along with her/his field research project they did to complete their MA degree.
This month COEX spotlight is: Phil Gamaghelyan and Paul Ogalo
Phil Gamaghelyan, a graduate of the first cohort of the MA COEX Program, has shared a link to a new two-volume book on theory and practice of peacemaking where he also has a chapter on social media and conflict. Read more here. Phil is a PhD student at ICAR. He is the co-founder and co-director of the Imagine Center for Conflict Transformation, and the managing editor of the Journal of Conflict Transformation: Caucasus Edition. He initiated and facilitated numerous Azerbaijani-Armenian dialogue and training workshops and conferences with diverse audiences including students, politicians and educators. Before establishing the Imagine Center and the Journal, Phil served as a consultant, trainer and facilitator for various Turkish-Armenian, Arab-Israeli, Indian-Pakistani, Afghani initiatives by Seeds of Peace, Harvard University, Brandeis University and the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Phil lectured at Tufts University on the topics of collective memory and history in Turkish-Armenian reconciliation process. He has written methodological articles and manuals focusing on working with historical memory in ethnic conflicts.
Paul Ogalo's field project research in the Philippines has been published by a German organization - Lambert Academic Publishing. The book is called Developments on Contested land of Mindanao (Book by Paul Ogalo).
The book is available for purchase online. Paul will continue looking at the Kenyan land problem as the second-phase of his work. Land issues are one of the key roots of the conflict in Kenya and it has had adverse challenges on how the country is governed.
